Out of Africa

The big day has arrrived. We're off to South Africa for a bit of R & R - swimming with Great Whites, puking on an Albatross pelagic and aiming to cram as much birding in as we can during our short stay.

Rumour has it one of the team has more baggage than Karin Von Blixen whilst another is about to throw a hissy fit if his new red wetsuit leaks & has spent hours in front of the mirror in this tight fit(ting) garmet practising the words to the 'Lion Sleeps Tonight' in a falsetto voice as the new suit is 2 sizes to small. Meanwhile a 3rd member of the team is allegedly packing his safari suit in an effort to roll back the years and look like Robert Redofrd in the 1985 Sydney Pollack epic. Me? I'm buying myself a British & Irish Lions tee shirt and aiming to wind the locals up when ever possible!

Based in Simonstown we're hoping to get good views of South African Penguin, Cape Rock-jumper, Ground Woodpecker, Kynysa Warbler and of course the albatross species that frequent the offshore waters in the winter months - weather permitting! A trip is planned to Bushmans land for the endemic Red Lark.

Hopefully I'll get some good pics and will post them here on my return.
