Winter Warblers

Three Blackcaps now making the most of the fat feeders hanging in the garden. 2 females & a male seen together. Amazing to think these birds may have come from Germany rather than migrate to Africa and that this is only a fairly recent phenomenon.

I managed to grab these shots through our conservatory window but still haven't managed to photograph the Moorhens yet who now expect to be fed every morning!

My father-in-law also has Blackcaps in his garden a couple of miles away so it seems the colder weather in northern Europe has caused more birds than usual to displace to our shores.

Saw that Mark. Hilbre recently caught a Dutch ringed Blackcap so it looks as if we are getting a continental influx and a few stay at home birds.

Hi Phil

A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO
YOU AND ALL YOUR FAMILY

How come that Father Christmas brought you 3 Blackcaps for Christmas, but didn't bring me any !
I'm now in my 50th year and I don't believe in him anymore now !!!
I didn't realise that we were getting Blackcaps from Germany and Holland,I honestly thought that the birds that I was seeing were birds that had not returned home after the Summer months.

Cheers Denzil

Thats one of the mysterys of bird migration that has been revealed through ringing. It's a fairly recent phenomonen.
